We live in a world that’s sick—very sick. Many of the moral standards and values our society lived by fifty years ago and earlier are being ripped apart, challenged, and even criminalized. Today, people can face legal consequences for standing against same-sex marriage. Businesses can be sued if owners refuse to support lifestyles or ideologies that violate their convictions.

In schools, children are often required to participate in classes or discussions that conflict with their religious beliefs. They are exposed to teachings that oppose the spiritual, political, and social values many Christian families hold dear. Going further, there are places where street preaching and public evangelism are restricted, and those who offer alternatives to abortion are increasingly viewed as threats rather than people trying to help.

On the political scene, conservatives—particularly conservative Christians—are frequently marginalized, labeled as bigots, and treated as though their beliefs no longer deserve a voice in society.

This war is spiritual in nature and propagated by satan himself (I don’t capitalize that name. He’s nothing and deserves no recognition). I have never seen such aggressive attacks against our values, our faith, and our conservative ideals the way we see them attacked today. If satan wins, believers will face growing persecution and opposition.
How do we navigate a world like this? How do we protect our children? How do we keep our lives stable and our faith fully active?

1. Our First Obligation Is to Pray
Prayer has almost become a simplistic catchphrase today. We are constantly asked to pray for our president, and we should. We are told to pray for our political leaders and our nation, and that too is essential. Unfortunately, when we see these requests every time we open our phones or computers, they can easily become background noise.
Maybe we whisper a quick prayer and move on.

What is needed is prayer that works.
Everything I’ve mentioned—and much more—should become part of our daily prayer lives. Like never before, we need earnest, heartfelt prayer. We need people willing to fast, seek God seriously, and intercede for our nation. Open your Bible. Read the Scriptures. Pray the Scriptures.

E. M. Bounds earnestly sought God in his day and helped change his world through prayer. We can do the same. It is time for Christians to become dedicated people of prayer. It is time for some believers to become godly, Spirit-filled, earnest intercessors for our sick society.

2. Our Second Obligation Is to Get Informed
Don’t allow liberal news outlets to shape your opinions and values. First, search the Scriptures to understand how God views the evils we are facing. Second, teach those principles to your children.
Do your research—and I mean more than a simple Google search. Dig deeper. Examine the sources carefully. If what they teach does not align with the Word of God, then place no confidence in their opinions or philosophies.

3. Answer Your Children’s Questions
Don’t sidestep your children’s questions or put them off. They need real answers, not clichés or shallow responses.
Children today are bombarded with worldviews far different from what we as conservative Christians believe. They want to know why we believe what we believe, and they want evidence that what we are teaching them is true. If we fail to guide them biblically, the world will gladly step in and shape their thinking for us.

4. Become Active in the Political Arena
I fear for our country.

You may not hold the same conservative political views that I do. Yet when you look honestly at the political climate today, it becomes clear that we are facing one of the most dangerous cultural and political battles of our lifetime.
I pray daily for the mid-term elections. Why? Because if the radical left and anti-God extremists gain complete control, Congress and many of our institutions will continue moving further away from biblical values.

We cannot stand by silently.
I’m praying for God to intervene just as He did during the Revolutionary War—to turn the tide and prevent evil leaders from controlling our national destiny.

5. Be a Servant
We need people willing to serve.
We need believers who will help those in need, serve their communities, strengthen their cities, and become involved in organizations that influence society for good. We need people willing to serve even those who oppose them. Serve those who are different from you.
Jesus taught us to love and serve others. He washed the disciples’ feet as an example for all of us to follow.

6. Show Christ’s Love to Muslims
Radical Islam has become a growing concern in many communities, and many people are calling for deportations and political action. Those may be discussions for the political sphere. But what is our responsibility as believers?
Our responsibility is to show the love of Christ.
Yes, I become frustrated when I see communities changing so dramatically and Arabic writing appearing on billboards across America. Yet our first obligation as Christians is still the gospel. We are called to love people and point them to Jesus Christ.
What better way to confront a dangerous ideology than to see thousands come to Christ and experience genuine transformation through the power of the gospel?

A Final Thought on Facing Our Sick Society
There is much more I could address in this blog, but these issues are already difficult enough for many people to process.
Everything we are witnessing in society today points us back to Scripture. While we await the second coming of Christ, that does not mean we retreat into hiding. More than ever, we need to call upon God, stand firm in our convictions, and do our part to resist the attacks of our enemy, satan.

“The darker the culture becomes, the brighter the love should shine.”
Standing firm does not mean becoming belligerent, hateful, or cruel. I’ll admit there have been times when I reacted out of anger rather than the love of Christ. That may be the cultural norm today, but it should never become the Christian norm.
Love is still the key to overcoming what is wrong in our society.
“Conviction without compassion hardens the heart, but truth spoken in love can change lives.”
Remember the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:
- Love is greater than our spiritual achievements.
- Love stands above intellectual accomplishments and even great faith.
- Love goes beyond philanthropy and reaches even those who persecute us.
- Love is longsuffering, kind, not envious, and not arrogant.
- Love rejoices in the truth.
- Love bears all things, believes the best, hopes, and endures all things.
- Love never fails.
- Love is mature and puts away childish behavior.
- The greatest virtue is LOVE.
